Gathering of characters in La Chimera trailer

Who doesn’t love a good archeological story that involves mythical creatures and potential doors to the afterlife? You can find all those things (and, of course, more) in the Neon film, La Chimera, which just released their first trailer today.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Everyone has their own Chimera, something they try to achieve but never manage to find. For the band of tombaroli, thieves of ancient grave goods and archaeological wonders, the Chimera means redemption from work and the dream of easy wealth. For Arthur, the Chimera looks like the woman he lost, Beniamina. To find her, Arthur challenges the invisible, searches everywhere, goes inside the earth—in search of the door to the afterlife of which myths speak. In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between celebrations and solitudes, the intertwined destinies of these characters unfold, all in search of the Chimera.

The film premiered at Cannes last year and is making its way to the U.S. in a few weeks. It comes from writer-director Alice Rohrwacher (Happy as Lazzaro) and stars Josh O’Connor (a.k.a. the young Prince Charles in The Crown), Carol Duarte (Invisible Life), Vincenzo Nemolato, Alba Rohrwacher, and Isabella Rossellini (known for many iconic roles, including the voice of the grandmother shell, Connie, in Marcel the Shell with Shoes On). Based on the trailer, it looks like the movie centers on the relationships that build among the group of gravediggers and explores themes of grief, loss, and found family.

La Chimera premieres in theaters on March 29, 2024. Check out the trailer below! icon-paragraph-end
